About Us: About the Practice

Orthopedic Care Specialists was founded in the mid sixties by Dr. William H. Sullivan. OCS has grown to its current compliment of eight surgeons whose specialties include general orthopedics, total joint replacement, sports medicine, trauma, advanced arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee and shoulder, hand and upper extremity, and spine. To better serve its patients, OCS moved in early 2007 to its newly constructed, 33,000 square foot, multi-disciplined facility. This new facility houses the orthopedic clinic with 18 exam rooms, 2 cast rooms, 2 x-ray rooms and administration; a rehabilitation facility with physical and occupational therapy; an MRI imaging center; an Ambulatory Surgical Center with 2 operating rooms and a pain management room, and a fully equipped and staffed fitness center and gym called Joints In Motion.

The clinic's design allows OCS to provide orthopedic care that is both expedient and of the highest quality. Patient care is enhanced by the use of sophisticated in-house diagnostic tools including two fully digital x-ray rooms and a 1.5 Tesla, short-bore G.E. MRI. These modalities allow for immediate review of the examinations, providing results in minutes instead of days. All images are stored in OCS's PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for instant retrieval.

Should surgical intervention be needed, appropriate patients can have surgery performed at OCS's Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) located within the facility. Orthopedic Care Surgery Center is a state-of-the-art two-room surgical suite with pain management. Using the latest equipment, OCSC provides out-patient surgical services in a clean, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Patients' families can view the pictures and video of the surgery immediately upon completion of the case in the post-operative consult room which is equipped with a computer and OCS's PACS software.

OCS's 5,500 square foot rehab department is staffed by highly trained, experienced physical and occupational therapists. They provide individualized treatment plans for all patients employing the latest modalities and equipment resulting in superior outcomes and consequently a better quality of life post surgical or post injury. The staff can provide custom-fitted foot orthotics and custom made casts and splints for the hand, wrist and elbow. Each therapist regularly communicates patients' progress directly to the treating physician with instant feedback from the doctor promoting better patient care.

Joints In Motion's 4,000 square foot fitness and wellness center was built to allow OCS to progress patients into independent workout programs that they can continue with upon discharge from rehab. J.I.M. is staffed by certified personal trainers who work in conjunction with the therapists to ensure a seamless transition from formal therapy to an independent workout regimen that builds upon the progress and goals attained in therapy. J.I.M. also provides instruction in Yoga; as well as aerobic workouts; specialized strength and agility training, and workouts targeting specific areas such as abdominal and core strengthening classes. After completing their workouts, members can use the men's or women's locker rooms which are equipped with private showers, steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools.

OCS's MRI imaging center uses the latest in sophisticated hardware and software technology to deliver extremely clear images of the human body. The highly qualified staff creates a friendly and welcoming environment promoting an overall better imaging experience. Images are stored in OCS's PACS for instant viewing. Radiologists, Board certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR), interpret the images and provide accurate and timely reports to the physicians, thus shortening the treatment process.
